Ponies, ponies, ponies

British Horse & Pony Literature

The British have produced a lot of pony books.  That said, the Americans haven’t done too badly either (though they call their books horse stories).  I’ve never done the calculation, but it would be interesting to know if, in relation to our population, the UK has actually done more.  We certainly have a huge variety of books, from equine biographies through racing stories and on to the gymkhana tale.

On this section of the site you’ll find the major British authors, as well as a vast selection of others.  They are organised in alphabetical order.  There are now pages for over 260  British authors, and I’m adding more all the time.  If I don’t have anything on an author as yet, please let me know.  Likewise, if you know anything about authors or their books, or have photographs of books I don’t have, please let me know.  As you’ll see as you go through the site, which is dripping with acknowledgements, I do get help from a lot of people, and the site wouldn’t be what it is without them.

Nearly all the research on the site is my own; if I use sources I acknowledge them.  If you find anything wrong, this is my responsibility.  Please let me know.
