Ponies, ponies, ponies

Joan Wanklyn was better known as an illustrator than an author. Born in 1924 in Hertfordshire, she studied at the Royal Drawing Society Studios, Chelsea Polytechnic and the Central School of Art. Of the children’s books she wrote and illustrated, Bobtail Shawn, the biography of a pony, is the one pony book.

She contributed many illustrations to the Pony Club Annual and Pony Magazine Annual, and was a regular fixture in equestrian magazines.
